Apprenticeships

What are they?

Apprenticeships are work based learning programmes that enable the apprentice to earn a wage whilst gaining on the job experience and skills that lead to nationally recognised qualifications.


Facts in numbers

  • 80% of businesses who employ apprentices agree they make their workplace more productive.

  • 81% of consumers prefer using a company which takes on apprentices.

  • The National Minimum Wage for apprentices is £2.60 per hour. Many employers prefer to pay more however, and research shows that the average salary is approx £170 per week.

  • Employers who take on a 16-18 year old apprentice only pay their salary. The Government will fund their training.

  • 88% of employers who employ apprentices believe that Apprenticeships lead to a more motivated and satisfied workforce.

  • 83% of employers who employ apprentices rely on their Apprenticeships programme to provide the skilled workers they need for the future.

  • One in five employers are hiring more apprentices to help them through the tough economic climate.

  • Apprentices are employees who earn a wage and work alongside experienced staff in businesses to gain job-specific skills and nationally recognised qualifications.

  • Over 100,000 employers in over 160,000 workplaces in England offer Apprenticeships

  • There were over a half a million (685,000) apprentices working in England throughout the 2010/11 academic year

  • Provisional data shows 2010/11 Apprenticeship starts have risen by 58% compared to the full 2009/10 academic year. This is not only great news for young people, but also for employers and the economy.

Talent Training has a positive approach to working with businesses to support the development of employers and employees.  We are looking to work with organisations that want to improve their staff skills set or offer a young person the opportunity to join the organisation on an Apprenticeship scheme and gain a nationally recognised qualification.  These include:

  • Hospitality - Level 2
  • Warehousing - Level 2
  • Customer Service Apprenticeship, Levels 2, 3 
  • Business and Administration Apprenticeship 2, 3
  • Team Leading - Level 2
  • Leadership & Management – Level 3

These include;

  • Functional Skills – Maths, English & ICT
  • Technical Certificate - underpinning knowledge
