Foundation Learning

What is it?

Foundation Learning is the national programme of learning for 14–19 year old learners, working predominantly at entry level or level 1.  Foundation Learning provides greater opportunities for progression, with learners and practitioners agreeing to develop a personalised programme towards an intended ‘destination’.  Most learners will progress to level 2 (Diplomas, Apprenticeships).

With the right level of support from us here at Talent and the right Employers, learners will have the capacity to progress to positive outcomes. Qualifications that support Foundation Learning offer greater flexibility and opportunities for learners to accredit their learning in ‘bite-sized’ units.

Foundation Learning motivates and enables more young people, including many who are vulnerable or at risk of dropping out, to achieve greater economic and social well-being.

Aims & Benefits

This programme will cover all aspects of the chosen course to equip the learner with the knowledge in a real working environment.  They will undertake two days per week work experience; this can be in a selection of different businesses such as Solicitors, Travel Agents and General Office environments, Hotels, Restaurants, Coffee Shops and Warehouses. The learner will also be expected to attend our training centre for three days per week working towards relevant qualifications to assist with progression to an apprenticeship and/or employment.

The overarching aims of Foundation Learning are to:

  • Support improved engagement, participation and progression through entry level and level 1 towards a level 2 through an Apprenticeship
  • Ensure that learners gain a minimum level and range of skills providing a sound foundation for further learning and employment
  • Support the delivery of quality learning programmes which help to encourage raised aspirations and a culture of lifelong learning.
